TCP Bulk Repeat for Heavy Random Losses: A Performance Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
TCP Bulk Repeat (TCP BR) is a sender-side enhancement of TCP that greatly improves performance in wireless and satellite networks with very high packet error rates (above 1%), where conventional schemes such as TCP NewReno, TCP SACK and TCP Westwood suffer severe performance degradation. In this paper we study TCP BR performance through a stochastic model. The general model, which has a dynamic window and a loss vector, is presented and simplified, following our observations that TCP BR operates with a fixed window, and out-of-order loss recovery can be approximated with in-order recovery. The model is then solved numerically and validated via simulation.

TCP Westwood with Bulk Repeat for Heavy Loss Environments
Abstract — TCP Westwood (TCPW), a recently introduced sender only variant of TCP, was shown to be particularly efficient in high bandwidth, large propagation paths, with light random loss. That is, when the bandwidth delay product is high, and some of the links are exposed to wireless interference with relatively small loss rate (eg, satellite links or wireless last hops). In this paper, we foc...

TCP is the most widely used transport layer protocol. However, it was designed for wired networks and suffers performance degradation in error-prone wireless networks. When multiple error losses occur in the same window, existing NewReno-based TCP variants need one RTT to retransmit each lost packet, an inefficient recover strategy. Exponential retransmit backoff and frequent window reduction a...
متن کاملDeriving Fast Recovery Probability as a Performance Measure of TCP SACK in Wireless Links
In this paper, we would like to study the analytical model of Transmission Control Protocol – Selective Acknowledgement (TCP SACK) by deriving its fast recovery probability in wireless links. Recently, there exist several variants of TCP, for instances Tahoe, Reno, New Reno, Vegas, Westwood and SACK. TCP Reno is the most popular TCP implementation in the Internet today. Reno’s fast recovery alg...

Wireless links are error-prone. In Next Generation wireless networks, link capacities will still grow. It is known that in such configurations the performance of current TCP variants degrades severely. In this paper we propose a new retransmission strategy for TCP in high error situations – Bulk Repeat (BR). We apply BR to TCP Westwood (TCPW). BR has only three senderside modifications to TCP, ...
متن کاملPerformance of TCPW BR in Next Generation Wireless and Satellite Networks
Both ground radio and satellite links are error-prone. In the Next Generation Internet (NGI) link capacities and propagation delays will grow, leading to very large TCP pipes. It is well known that in such long delay and error-prone environments the performance of current TCP variants degrades severely. We have previously developed an extension of TCP Westwood (TCPW) called TCPW with Bulk Repea...
